Astor Place

Astor Place, known to many New Yorkers as the one-block street in East Village that gives its name to a subway station, is now home to one of Manhattan’s more striking co-ops. Although not actually on the square of the same name, but rather at 445 Lafayette Street, Astor Place’s deep-blue glass façade gracefully overlooks the area with sweeping curves and an angled pinnacle to the sky. Within a block of three subway lines, Astor Place is certainly one of Manhattan’s more accessible co-ops.

Designed by famed architecture firm Gwathmey Siegel & Associates, Astor Place stands in contrast to the Romanesque style common in the East Village. Its floor-to-ceiling windows provide residents with incredible views of both Lower and Midtown Manhattan’s sprawling skylines, while distinctive open floor plans with bent edges create unique spaces. A combination of rich cherry wood, dark granite counters, and top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances results in exemplary contemporary design. Astor Place’s bathrooms contain many custom built features such as recessed cabinetry and detailed faucets, all of which rest on marble floors, about as luxurious as a bathroom can be.

While Astor Place may have been meticulously designed, its masterminds did not forget about amenities. All residents at 445 Lafayette Street have access to a private fitness center as well as full-time doorman and concierge services. In addition, each apartment for sale at Astor Place comes with a personal washer and dryer. The best amenity, however, is living in East Village, one of Manhattan’s trendiest neighborhoods, with a diverse population, great restaurants, and seemingly endless shopping.
