Roosevelt Island is a two-mile long island on the East River, between Manhattan and Queens. It is primarily a residential community, giving it a suburban feel. The streets are mostly car-free, and the island is mostly quiet, a change from the fast-pace of the big city.
While restaurant, retail, and commercial areas in general are few, there are many green public spaces that are second to none. Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park is a beautifully designed memorial for the late president, and throughout the island’s residences, one can find unrivaled views of Midtown Manhattan and Queens. The island is far from isolated: both a separate tram and the F train can take you to Manhattan easily. Roosevelt Island is currently undergoing new developments and construction attempts to meet the ever-increasing demand.
