About Michelle
Michelle Halpern’s genuine love of New York began while she was growing up in Manhasset on Long Island. She attended The Portledge School in Locust Valley before moving on to American University where she graduated with a degree in International Relations.
Prior to entering the real estate world, Michelle worked as a Public Relations and Marketing Manager for a prestigious auction house that specialized in timepieces. Drawn to the excitement of the auction world and the beauty of rare timepieces, she thrived at organizing world-class watch events and was instrumental in many record-breaking timepiece sales.
Since becoming a real estate agent, Michelle’s approach has been to first and foremost get to know her client, to best determine what they want and why they want it. This makes it possible for her to find the best possible choices that match their criteria, along with other options that align with their wants and needs. She believes in not only showing clients homes that meet all their specifications, but also excellent options that they may have never thought of before. Michelle knows that New York City is like no other in the world when it comes to real estate and she believes that you can truly find the best of the best here.
Michelle currently lives on the Upper East Side. She is fluent in Danish and French and has a passion for travel and learning about new cultures. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys attending cultural events, exploring new neighborhoods, and taking advantage of everything New York City has to offer.
Testimonials
Michelle is the best! So pleasant and responsive, she found me my apartment on her first try!! Recommend 100%!!!!
SorayaNot only was I a first-time home buyer but I was also looking to buy a townhouse. As such, I was somewhat nervous about the big decisions I had to make. Speaking to Michelle right at the beginning of the process was really calming for me as she clearly outlined how things would work, patiently answered all my questions and assured me that I didn't have to feel any undue pressure. After that, she came up with options that met all my specific criteria and was very prudent and efficient in setting up viewings and helping me work through the pros and cons of each option. It didn't take very long to pick a house I really liked. As a busy person with competing priorities, I really appreciated how helpful Michelle was with her referrals and follow ups through the purchase process so that I only had to focus on the most important bits. Michelle was warm and supportive the whole time and I really appreciated how she took so much of the stress out of what could easily have been quite draining and distracting. I will be strongly recommending Michelle to everyone in my network and I hope those reading this review are able to discern how valuable she can be.
VishakhIt was just around Thanksgiving holidays 2020, I as a first-time home buyer started venturing into the world of Co-op ownership. With no prior experience working with an agent, I initially took it up as a DIY project and started to educate myself via online blogs/videos about Co-op/Condo buying processes. Honestly, I found the process a bit overwhelming and decided for professional help. Here comes the world of Zillow/Trulia/StreetEasy services, making life easy for prospective buyers to browse through listings and getting in touch with agents who wants to help with their professional expertise. With no references for any agents, it was like taking a blind shot interacting with agents via email/phone call etc. So, while sending requests online for apartment showing, I received a response from Michelle. At that time, I just started working with another agent, so had to decline Michelle's message and she sent me a polite good luck message immediately. Well, that was kind of a trigger for me as how good a professional she is (in most of cases you don’t expect an adequate response when you decline any service). So, after working for few weeks with current agent when things did not work, I had to look for another professional help and had no second thoughts reaching out to Michelle. The first thing which stood out is her prompt responses (felt like I was talking to a chatbot than a real person :)). She was very patient to listen/understand my requirements and never gave up responding to my silly questions (additional brownie points for this :)). My timing was bit tricky as I had no plans during holidays for obvious reasons and decided to spend some of my vacation times in apartment search. I requested Michelle for some schedules and to my surprise, during these times when there are building restrictions related to covid, she was able to line up appointments for me in matter of days. The more I talked to Michelle, the more I felt educated about the process as she was crisp and clear in communicating all the unknowns a first-time home buyer could possibly come across. With all these professional helps, I finally managed to finalize an apartment I was looking for. Well then comes the application process (honestly, I felt like working on my grad school application again :)). Michelle was always there guiding me every step of the process with reviews/feedbacks. So, from apartment search, showing, offer negotiation, application review, submission, follow-ups, setting up interviews, getting feedbacks I hardly see there are any delays and Michelle was there every step of the way, making it seamlessly easy for me. So, going back to 2020 Thanksgiving holidays when I was scratching my head about home ownership, till today when I am sitting in my new apartment writing this review, it took just 4 months (there are understandably covid related delays). Even though I was a client for Michelle, in my day job I work for clients. So, I truly value the importance of quality "client service" relationship in this professional world and can clearly mark Michelle 100% in all professional areas. Whenever I talk to my friends who are prospective home buyers, I always share them the positive impact of working with a good agent and highly recommend Michelle’s expertise to any prospective buyers.
AbhijitI am a first time buyer. I was almost scared away when I read the process of buying an apartment in New York City. However, Michelle walked me through the whole process smoothly in this rough time of COVID - it only took me 2 months from viewing the apartment to closing. I cannot ask for a better broker than Michelle. She is very hard- working, brilliant, warm- hearted, professional, and approachable. I was very impressed by our first phone call - she spent more than 1h getting to know me and my preference for the apartment on a Saturday afternoon. Shortly, she confirmed next day appointment to view the apartment. When giving offer and negotiating, she helped me analyze the condition of the apartment and did some search about prices of recently sold similar apartments in the building. She helped me decide the reasonable offer from my standpoint like a friend. She is not pushy. Her easy- going personality also made communication with listing broker/ seller very pleasant. She provided me with clear timeline of each step and highlights the priorities or alert me about commonly seen mistakes/ problems. She also helped with communication with my attorney and gave me guidance on working with my lender. She reviewed my application multiple times and was very strict with all the details. She is available anytime. I called her a few times after 7 pm due to my busy work schedule - every time she patiently answered my questions to my satisfaction. She goes above and beyond, helping drop off my renovation application and referring me to renovation resources. When I buy or sell apartment in the future, I will still choose to work with her. Without doubt, I will also recommend her to my friends without conservation.
YingMichelle was invaluable to our first-home-buying experience. She was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the process, as well as a consistent source of emotional support. All communication was immediate and clear. We are so happy with our purchase and owe it in large part to Michelle and all of her guidance.
Kelsey L.We worked with Michelle to buy an apartment in NYC. She was patient and professional with us from start to finish. She frequently checked in with us, gave us updates, and did the legwork to answer our questions. She made sure that we were comfortable with and understood each step of the process. All the way through the process, through the final walk-through, Michelle was checking every detail with us to make sure we were satisfied. She often advocated for us. Besides being adept and great at her job, she was so pleasant to be around. We'd recommend Michelle to all our friends and certainly plan to work with her again for future apartment selling/buying.
Marie T.I got a job offer in NYC (moving across country from LA) and my wife and I had to find an apartment within 3 weeks of my start date. My wife went out for 5 days and found a listing on Street Easy represented by Michelle. She was awesome. Super responsive and walked us through everything we needed to do - from gathering a ton of required documentation and getting it over to the building - to being an advocate and cheerleader to ensure we were approved. She was responding to emails past midnight (I was still on Pacific Time and was not expecting a response until the next morning). We could not have done it without Michelle!
NickAfter looking at over 25+ apartments, I finally met Michelle and within seeing another 5 units my search was finally successful. She knew exactly what I was looking for and was able to help me find what was a great fit for me. I appreciated her professionalism, courteous and friendly demeanor!
JarettMichelle is a fantastic combo of leading and listening. She takes her cues from uncertainty and questions and provides matter-of-fact guidance and counsel, yet can also read when a client's opinion is firm or a decision is made. Has a great no-pressure demeanor which is pleasant and easy to engage with and is very service-oriented—which makes the stressful process of looking for a home in NYC much more pleasant. I would not hesitate to work with Michelle again.
Marc D.Michelle was the most pleasant broker I’ve experienced to date. She was helpful and quick to respond to my concerns, yet during the process she wasn’t pushy or off putting. Brokers struggle to find the right balance of communication and Michelle did it perfectly.
ZacharyOur time with Michelle was productive, professional, and fun. She used her knowledge to help us find a great apartment quickly. She knows the buildings and many of the people who work there. Our time was scheduled efficiently and the end result was all good. Her warm smile and friendly manner was much appreciated. We will use her again and recommend her to our friends.
Doug and Joan H.Michelle is the nicest person ever. You feel comfortable around her. She inspires trust.
